Custom Sewing Labels

Filed Under Shopping And Product Reviews | Comments Off

Jennifer Bailey asked:

Labels are used mainly to identify the company or brand name of a commodity. There are different types of labels for different uses. In the clothing industry, custom sewing labels are most in vogue for use in clothing. These labels help in putting some premium on the clothes in order to bring about some sort of branding and equity.

Custom sewing labels are usually ordered by a mall or a sole entrepreneur. These people get clothes sewn for a cheap rate. These countries (China is an example) are open for trade, so shipping from the country is rather easy. The entrepreneur or mall then manufactures bulk custom sewing labels with their brand name on it. The brand name could be the name of the business or company. These custom sewing labels are then stitched into these bulk clothes for sale purposes.

These custom sewing labels need not always be stitched on; you can also try making custom sewing labels as tags or nameplates. Or you could have them made as the woven nametape that is sewn by hand or by machine. There are also some custom sewing labels that can be glued to the fabric with the help of a special adhesive. The plastic nameplates are those labels needing heat for application on the clothes.

It is always better to check online stores for ordering custom sewing labels. There are many stores out there that design, manufacture, and print color labels. You save time surfing the different online stores for manufacturers of custom sewing labels. You could also consider having custom sewing labels for your family so that the clothes in your family don?t get mixed up. These custom sewing labels for your family could be created keeping something special or particular about your family in mind.

My wife has a sewing machine with table. She would like a chair for the table for Christmas, but I have no idea what would be a good chair to buy, for example, with arm rests or without arm rest. Could some sewing people help a brother out?

I need to make a handmade “curtain” without a sewing machine by tomorrow morning (i.e. a few hours from now…:) The curtain is being used to hide a refrigerated display case. I’m planning on using velcro to attach the material to the case. However, it is in a restaurant and will need to be cleaned quite often. So i thought using elastic to gather the material at the top would create creases to help hide any stains at least a little bit. I have a glue gun, elastic, thread, and a needle. What do you suggest?! Help please!!
(Actually I know not to GLUE the elastic to the material, but rather i mean use the glue to create the horizontal “pocket” around the velcro.) Advice For Sewing Machine Novices

Filed Under Home And Family | Comments Off

Lily Campbell asked:

Sewing is enjoying a surge in popularity. Making your own clothes, accessories or soft furnishings can save money or simply help you create unique, beautiful pieces that look exactly how you want. But if you are a complete novice, the range of sewing machines available can be a bit intimidating if you don’t know exactly what you are looking for.

If you are planning on making your own clothes or home furnishings you are probably only going to need a fairly basic model rather than an expensive sewing machine with a dozen functions you may never learn to use. A basic machine should be able to do straight and zig zag stitches and a button hole function. If you are quite artistic or creative (and therefore interested in doing elaborate or embellished work) and have a slightly bigger budget then computerized models of sewing machine do a much greater variety of stitches. These types of machine are also a better investment if you aspire to selling your handiwork one day.

By far the most common problem novices have with their new sewing machine is misthreading the needle. Read the instruction manual carefully and keep it to hand until you are truly proficient in using it. Take the time to experiment with varying types and weights of fabric and different stitches. Lighter material such as silk will require short stitches (1mm to 1.5mm) while heavy fabric may need a longer, tacking stitch (3mm to 5mm). Experimentation can save you a lot of time and costly mistakes later on when you are actually trying to create a finished product. Dust can make your sewing machine run less efficiently so always recover the machine after use.

To make the most of your new sewing machine and your crafting skills, contact your local college or adult education centre to ask if they run suitable evening courses.
